Titans Could Wear Throwback Oilers Jerseys vs. Texans in 2023

NFL legend Warren Moon said there is a chance the Titans could bring back their throwback Oilers jerseys against the Houston Texans in 2023.

HOUSTON — The rivalry between the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans could reach new heights during the 2023 campaign. The Titans will bring back the classic Houston Oilers jerseys next season, which was confirmed by legend Warren Moon on the Up and Adams show.

Moon established himself as an NFL legend with the Oilers from 1984 to 1993. He became the NFL Offensive Player of the Year winner in 1990 after throwing for 4,689 yards and 33 touchdowns amid a career that featured nine Pro-Bowl selections — six came during his career in Houston.

"I talked with the owner [Amy Adams Strunk] about it," Moon said. "She was waiting for the helmets to be approved. Now that you can wear the helmet, we’re wearing the whole uniform this year, and it could be against the Houston Texans."

Moon led the Oilers to their best season in franchise history during the 1993 campaign. Houston went 12-4 and lost in the Divisional Round to the Kansas City Chiefs. Moon finished the season throwing for 3,485 yards and 21 touchdowns in his final season in Houston.

The Oilers became an NFL franchise in 1960 and spent over three decades as Houston's original team. The Oilers relocated to Tennessee in 1997. And despite re-branding to the Titans, the franchise still owned the name and team branding of the Oilers.

The 2009 season marked the last time the Titans wore their Oilers uniform. It came during the Titans' 41-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills as part of their 50th-anniversary celebration.
