Texans To Re-Sign Veteran DE Derek Rivers

The Houston Texans made another move in free agency Tuesday afternoon by signing veteran defensive end Derek Rivers

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans made several moves during Day 2 of NFL free agency. And Tuesday afternoon, the Texans re-signed defensive end Derek Rivers, per KPRC

The Texans' decision to re-sign the veteran defensive end was a surprising move. Rivers missed all of the 2022 season due to a torn triceps injury he sustained during the preseason.

He arrived to the Texans in 2021 following a one-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams. Rivers recorded nine tackles, one quarterback hit and 1.0 sack through five games in his first season in Houston.

Rivers began his career as a third-round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He was a part of the Patriots' championship title in 2018 when the New England defeated the Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

His best season came in 2020 when Rivers appeared in a career-best 13 games to record four quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks for the Rams.

In addition to Rivers, Houston also added wide receiver Noah Brown and tight end Andrew Beck during Day 2 of free agency. But the day began with the Texans trading for offensive guard Shaq Mason from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During the first day of free agency on Monday, the Texans also added defensive linemen Hassan Ridgeway and Chase Winovich.
