New York Jets QB Zach Wilson Lights Up Houston Texans Defense With 'Best Game As A Professional'

It was a game that was mired by bad weather and a sluggish field, and it appeared to have affected the Texans' high-powered offense early. But it wasn't just the Houston offense that stalled. Both Houston and New York failed to score in the first half for a scoreless, 0-0 tie at halftime.

Jets QB Zach Wilson was returning from a two-game benching with little expectations and responded with a big second half. New York had scored just 10 offensive touchdowns in its first 12 games.

“His best game as a professional,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said. “He made things happen. I thought he was outstanding today.”

Wilson threw for 301 yards on 27-of-36 passing - just the third time in his career he's thrown for over 300 yards in a game - despite constant pressure from the Houston defense and being sacked four times.

Wilson was benched against the Bills three games prior and sat on the bench during games against the Dolphins and Falcons before being thrust back into action earlier last week. It was the third time in his three-year career to be benched.

Wilson found himself making headlines after The Athletic reported he was hesitant to take over as the starter again - something he denied. The team, staff, and even injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers defended Wilson.

The loss dropped the Texans to 7-6, but more importantly, may be without star rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud for a time. Stroud was hit by Quinnen Williams and fell backward, hitting his head on the turf. He was examined by medical personnel on the sideline before being taken to the locker room - and is currently in concussion protocol.

Next up for the Texans are the Tennessee Titans at home on Sunday at Noon C.T. on CBS.
