Steelers Signing Texans Punter Cameron Johnston
Texans Punter Cameron Johnston is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers after three seasons in Houston.
Next season will be Johnston's seventh year in the NFL after Johnston spent his first three years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Johnston heads back to the northeast to take over punting duties for the Steelers.
Pittsburgh opted to part ways with punter Pressley Harvin ahead of his third NFL season and had planned to explore new options at the position during the offseason, ultimately deciding to move forward with Johnston as their primary punter.
Throughout three seasons, Johnston tallied 66 punts for a total of 3,145 yards with an average of 47.7 yards per punt.
In total 30 of his punts landed inside the opponent's 20-yard line, demonstrating his accuracy and ability to pin opponents deep in their territory. Johnston's season debut in Week 5 against Atlanta saw him punt six times for 234 yards, averaging 39.0 yards per punt.
His standout performance came in Week 8 against Carolina, where he booted six punts for 287 yards, including a remarkable 74-yard punt from his own end zone, setting a new franchise record for the Texans.
In the AFC Wild Card win against Cleveland, Johnston recorded four punts for 184 yards, maintaining his consistent performance. Even in high-pressure situations like the Divisional Round matchup against Baltimore, Johnston remained reliable, punting five times for 217 yards with an average of 43.4 yards per punt.
Throughout the season, Johnston's strong leg and precision proved invaluable for the Texans special teams unit.
Johnston now joins Russell Wilson today as the Steelers' newly signed quarterback.
