'Too Bad, So Sad!' JJ Watt Makes Bold Claim After Houston Texans Survive Tennessee Titans

Houston Texans legend JJ Watt capped off Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans with a joke that added insult to injury in an intense AFC South rivalry.

The Houston Texans survived.

They didn’t have quarterback C.J. Stroud under center, nor breakout receiver Nico Collins out wide. They were down two starting offensive tackles, their rookie standout edge rusher, and their most productive inside linebacker.

After four quarters and the entirety of overtime, they beat the Tennessee Titans 19-16.

The storybook win meant more than the bragging rights it provided or the playoff hopes it kept alive. Tennessee slapped the Houston faithful in the face with its decision to wear their Houston Oilers throwback uniforms. The Texans answered back.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (22) is tackled by Houston Texans defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (98) during the second half at Nissan Stadium.

Aside from advancing to 8-6 and eliminating the AFC South-rival Titans from playoff contention, Houston served gridiron justice.

Texans legend JJ Watt joined in on the fun after the victory.

“We get the uniforms back,” Watt posted on X, formerly Twitter. “That’s how it works, I don’t make the rules.”

Losing to a division rival is nothing new. Losing – at home – to a division rival, without their franchise quarterback and almost all of their best players, while wearing a uniform with deep ties to their city? That’s a new one.

“Sorry, not sorry,” Watt continued. “Too bad, so sad.”

The win brings Houston’s playoff odds to about a 50/50 chance, per Sumer Sports. A loss could have cut that in half. Finding a win despite the adversity is a testament to head coach DeMeco Ryans’ impressive first year as lead man.

The Texans were helped out mightily by running back Devin Singletary posting 170 yards from scrimmage on 30 touches. He and Houston’s weapons helped bring veteran quarterback Case Keenum across the finish line. Tight end Dalton Schultz miraculously saved a pass from being intercepted and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn won the game in his return to action.

In all, the Texans return home with a pivotal victory – one that will resonate with fans regardless of how this season comes to a close. Their next action comes on Sunday, back home against the Cleveland Browns.
