'Unbelievable Job!' Texans Legend J.J. Watt Praises Coach DeMeco Ryans, QB C.J. Stroud

Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt was not shy regarding his approval of head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud.

When J.J. Watt speaks, people listen, especially where the Houston Texans are concerned.

If Watt is pleased with the current state of the franchise, odds are that it is in good shape, especially considering the former defensive end spent 10 years of his career in Houston. So when he heaped praise on Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud in a recent interview, that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Not only does Watt know ball, but he knows the Texans, and he believes this young duo is proving to be a remarkable fit for the team.

“I think it’s an incredibly exciting time to be a Texans fan,” Watt said. “Obviously, DeMeco did an unbelievable job with that team. And any of us who knew DeMeco, knew exactly what he was going to do, and what he’s capable of, because who he is as a person, and also who he is as a football mind. He’s brilliant. He also has the ability to communicate and get his message across to players extremely well.

“And then you add in a quarterback like C.J., who not only has all the physical skills and talent to do everything on the field, but he also has the maturity and the leadership to handle that locker room to do everything the right way, along with in the locker room publicly and in his press conferences.”

Coming into the season, the Texans were not expected to do much of substance on the field, and who could blame the predictors? Houston had not reached the postseason since 2019, and while it had some exciting new faces and talent, turnarounds usually take time in the NFL, especially with a first-year head coach.

Instead, the Texans brought home a 10-7 record and AFC South title to make the playoffs, and they secured a win over the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card round to add icing to the cake. Although their year came to a close in the Divisional Round against the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens, the perception around Houston has quickly changed, and that's in large part thanks to men like Ryans and Stroud.

Watt recognizes greatness when he sees it, and he sees it blossoming before our eyes in this dynamic duo.
