Tennessee Titans Signing DeAndre Hopkins According to Report from A to Z Sports' Doug Kyed
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have reportedly completed one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason, signing star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the roster. The contract will be a two-year deal worth up to $32 million.
A to Z Sports' Doug Kyed was the first to report the news, but it has since been confirmed by multiple media members. Hopkins will be joining a Titans squad that is desperate for help at wide receiver.
Hopkins brings an All-Pro pedigree to Nashville and has eye-popping career totals in his 10 seasons. Hopkins has caught 853 passes in his career for 11,298 yards and 71 receiving touchdowns while playing with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. The Titans' young group at wide receiver led by second-year player Treylon Burks could use the experience and wisdom Hopkins will bring.
Titans' head coach Mike Vrabel and his relationship with Hopkins during their time together with the Houston Texans had to factor into the decision. Vrabel will now add the player that his team needed the most and give his offense enough talent to accomplish their ultimate goals.
This is also a huge move for Titans' first-time general manager Ran Carthon. His first offseason as an NFL general manager is capped off by landing a big fish in Hopkins, who has three all-pro selections and five pro bowls.
The Titans were able to sign Hopkins despite stiff competition for his services. The New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills were all rumored to be interested in Hopkins at one point or another during this offseason and Hopkins even visited the Patriots.
The importance of this move can hardly be captured in words. The Titans are heading into a season that could be looked at as a transitional year with Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill on the last year of their contracts. Prior to the Hopkins deal, most were skeptical that this team was good enough around those two. Now, the Titans have answered those questions in a resounding way.
Hopkins will have to live up to the contract and the expectations. Titans fans have seen big-name receiver disappoint before. Hopefully for the Titans, Hopkins is able to break that curse.
