Pep Guardiola Has Priceless Reaction to Erling Haaland's Dramatic New Look

Erling Haaland knew there was one person who absolutely needed to see his dramatic new look.

After chopping off the long blonde hair that has become almost as recognizable as his goal celebrations, the Manchester City superstar decided to FaceTime former manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola needed only a moment to process what he was looking at. “No way!” Guardiola said after Haaland revealed his extremely short buzz cut.

Then came the line that made the exchange. “You’re lucky you have hair. I would love to have it.”

Haaland cracked up, and understandably so. It was the perfect reaction to a transformation that has soccer fans doing double takes.

“New season, new trim,” Haaland captioned an Instagram video revealing the cut. The difference is striking.

Haaland's long blonde hair has been a fixture throughout his rise into one of the world's most recognizable athletes, whether he wore it loose, pulled back or tied into his familiar game-day style. After his starring run with Norway at the 2026 World Cup, the look had arguably never been more recognizable.

Now, at 26, Haaland looks like an entirely different person. And Guardiola wasn't the only famous face Haaland wanted to surprise.

Haaland documented the transformation in a longer video shared on his YouTube channel, turning the haircut into something of a reveal tour for his friends.

Manchester City teammate Jack Grealish didn't exactly shower him with compliments. “You look about 10 years old!” Grealish joked.

Zlatan Ibrahimović had a different question after getting his first look at the dramatically shorter hair. “You gonna be faster now, or what?”

But Haaland saved Guardiola for last, telling viewers before making the call, “Last but not least, Pep.”

Guardiola initially looked stunned by what Haaland had done before delivering his crack about wishing he had hair of his own.

Haaland's haircut may have been the reason for the calls, but the reactions quickly became the best part of the reveal.

Calling Haaland's old hairstyle recognizable almost undersells it.

The Norwegian striker's long blonde hair followed him through his rise from European phenom to global superstar. It became fodder for memes, wigs and fan tributes, particularly as Haaland and Norway commanded worldwide attention during the 2026 World Cup.

His appearance was distinctive enough that spotting Haaland in a crowded stadium was rarely difficult.

That won't be the case anymore.

Haaland even kept the transformation under wraps for a little longer when he arrived for Manchester City's Premier League opener against Bournemouth wearing a cap.

By then, however, he already knew what some of soccer's biggest names thought about it. Grealish thought he looked 10 years old. Ibrahimović wanted to know if it would make him faster.

And Guardiola? He just wanted Haaland to appreciate the fact that he had hair to cut in the first place.
