In a dramatic twist at the Losail International Circuit, Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, found himself prematurely out of the Qatar Grand Prix following a collision with his Mercedes teammate George Russell at the race's inaugural corner.

The incident saw Hamilton attempting a daring overtake on his rival, Max Verstappen. However, the manoeuvre did not go as planned, with George Russell caught in a sandwich between the two. Hamilton slid perilously onto the gravel, a mishap that resulted in the loss of one of his front tyres and subsequently, his position in the race.

Hamilton has now expressed his remorse and took responsibility for the incident, stating:

"I just feel really sorry for my team, there was an opportunity today to get some good points. I felt the tag from behind but I don't think George had anywhere to go. I'm happy to take responsibility. It's massively gutting, it's rare this happens to me."

Russell, despite initial concerns of a potential retirement from the race made it back to the pits and, after a thorough damage assessment and a tyre change, he managed to rejoin the race under safety car conditions, averting a double disaster for Mercedes. He currently sits P7, 24 laps into the Qatar race.
