In a powerful display of solidarity, Lewis Hamilton shared a message of support for Vinícius Júnior, the Brazilian striker for Real Madrid, who recently faced racist demonstrations. Hamilton took to his Instagram account and posted a black and white photo published by the player himself, captioning it with the words:

"I'm with you, Vini Júnior."

The incident occurred during the Valencia vs. Real Madrid match in the Spanish Championship on Sunday. Vinícius Júnior was subjected to racist gestures and slurs, which escalated into a confrontation leading to his expulsion during injury time in the second half. The Brazilian player expressed his disappointment on social media, directing his criticism towards La Liga, the organizer of the Spanish Championship. He stated:

"I'm so sorry. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, and Messi, today belongs to racists. A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and which I love, but which agreed to export the image of a racist country to the world. I am sorry for the Spaniards who do not agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists."

Real Madrid, the player's club, promptly reported the incident to the local authorities. Valencia, on the other hand, condemned the racist behavior and pledged to identify and expel the fans responsible for the gestures. The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, downplayed the severity of the incident, asserting that the organization is not racist. However, Luis Rubiales, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), countered Tebas's remarks, labeling them as "irresponsible."

Hamilton himself has faced racism in Spain in the past. During the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix, a year after his teammate Fernando Alonso joined McLaren, Hamilton was also a victim of racist abuse from fans. On that occasion, fans painted themselves in black and wore T-shirts with the inscription "Hamilton's Family." Recalling the incident, the British driver expressed the pain he felt at the time, highlighting the lack of support and silence surrounding the issue in Formula One.

Hamilton's public show of support for Vinícius Júnior serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against racism in sports and society as a whole. It demonstrates the importance of standing together and speaking out against discrimination. The message from the seven-time champion echoes a resounding sentiment: racism has no place in our world.
