F1 News: Red Bull Advisor Issues Devastating Blow To Sergio Perez In Bold Statement

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has added fuel to the fire with the ongoing rumours of increased tension within the team, saying that Max Verstappen never saw his teammate Sergio Perez as a threat.
The Austrian team has dominated the 2023 season so far winning all six races, and four out of those six have been impressive 1-2 finishes. Rumours of friction within the team have rocketed since Verstappen's main threat for the drivers' championship title is Perez.
However, Marko delivered a blow to the Mexican driver during a recent interview with Austrian TV station OE24. He was asked if Verstappen expects any further pressure from Perez, to which Marko responded:
"That has [now so] come to an end. But in reality, Max never saw a serious threat in Checo."
Perez managed to close the gap to Verstappen after the Miami Grand Prix to just 14 points, however, after a terrible weekend in Monaco Perez is now 39 points behind.
Marko went on to discuss the upgrades that the team are bringing to the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend as well as that he will be keeping an eye on the other teams. He continued:
"In Barcelona, you can see how good a car really is. Then people say: if a car works on this track, it will work on 80 per cent of the other circuits."
There is still a long way to go in the season and there is no doubt that Verstappen is on top form. However, it seems too early to discount Perez yet, he is still close to the Dutch driver in the championship and will be fighting for his first title. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso is just 12 points behind Perez in the drivers' standings and is hoping to achieve his 33rd career win this season.
