F1 News: Toto Wolff Makes Huge Home Changes To Deal With Formula One Absence

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has been so dedicated to his team boss role that he got huge changes made to his home to have an entire F1-style pit wall setup to stay in touch with the team during the Grand Prix weekends. Toto is currently barred from traveling as a result of a surgery he had to undergo recently, to restore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg.
Wolff damaged his knee a few years ago after a cycling incident during a Formula 1 summer break that also left him with a fractured elbow. It was time for the knee to receive some attention and as a result, he has been missing in action on the pit lane since the Japanese GP weekend.

It is uncertain as to when he would be able to travel. Consequently, his role was taken over by two Mercedes executives- long-serving British chief communications officer Bradley Lord and driver development director Jerome D'Ambrosio.
But considering the seriousness of a team principal role, Wolff will be on the team's intercom through the race weekends. And for the same reason, he got an F1-style pit wall made at home to get a feeling of being present at the circuit.
Speaking to OE24 about his time off, Wolff said:
"The operation could not have gone better.
"Maybe I overdid it a bit with the rehab afterwards. In any case, my doctor said that long flights are not for me yet."
Toto Wolff Becomes Billionaire Despite Ongoing Mercedes Turmoil
Despite the concern over Wolff's long absence in the pits, Hamilton added that the team boss was a part of every team meeting just like he had been when present at the circuit. The team principal has been utilizing the same comms channel as team strategy members who send information from the factory.
Talking about how he was staying in touch with the track operations squad, Wolff spoke about this work-from-home pit wall:
"I've built a pit wall at home.
"I'm connected with the team and I'm fully involved."
