Lewis Hamilton Confirms Future With Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton has spoken out on his Mercedes contract.

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has spoken out over the rumours surrounding his future within the sport.

There has been a huge amount of speculation recently over Hamilton's contract, which is due to expire at the end of this season, mainly because of the ongoing troubles in the Brackley-based squad. 

However, the British driver has spoken to the press ahead of the Australian Grand Prix and has squashed rumours that he is considering leaving the team. He explained:

"I continue to feel very much at home in this family.

"I see myself with Mercedes until my last days, to be honest. I have amazing allies within the team, great relationships here."

Hamilton has previously made it clear he is not thinking of retiring until he wins his eighth championship title. 

Addressing when the time to leave might be, he added:

"Just as long as I can continue to help drive the team forward, really contribute ... if there's ever going to be a point where I feel like I'm unable to do that that, it's time for a youngster to come in."

The team are continuing to push forward with a different concept for the W14 after continuing to find issues with it. Hamilton acknowledged that it is going to take a long time to close the gap to their rivals, Red Bull, Ferrari, and Aston Martin. He added:

"I'm aware that it can take a long time to catch the car ahead.

"You look at the Red Bulls, it's just going to continue to evolve."
