Top Landing Spots For Deebo Samuel: Could He End Up Back With The 49ers?

We are now getting deep into the new NFL season as far as free agency goes. While most big-name players have found a home, there are still a handful available on the open market. One player who has not signed a new contract yet is wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
It appears that the 30-year-old wideout's best days may be behind him, but he was still an effective weapon for the Washington Commanders last season. Especially when you consider how bad that offense was as a whole last year, much in part due to injuries to Jayden Daniels.
Last season, he played 16 games and caught 72 of 99 targets for 727 yards and five touchdowns, while tacking on 75 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He may not be the star he once was, but we also don't believe that his tank is empty.
There are plenty of teams around the league who could use an offensive weapon like Samuel. He could be a true difference-maker with a creative offensive mind. These are the top landing spots for Samuel in 2026 free agency.
Los Angeles Chargers
It would be interesting to see what Mike McDaniel and Jim Harbaugh would cook up for Samuel. They are proven offensive coaches who are capable of getting creative. While Samuel may not be as speedy as the prototypical target of McDaniel, he does have the versatility he loves and the toughness Harbaugh loves on his team.
He could be used as a hybrid player and moved all over the field. Samuel wouldn't have to be anything more than a fourth option, which could preserve his health for when they need him most.
Green Bay Packers
With Romeo Doubs leaving for the New England Patriots in free agency, the Packers could be looking for a new weapon. Especially when you consider the injury history of Christian Watson and Jayden Reed, and the fact that Tucker Kraft is coming off a major knee injury of his own. He'd be a great fit in their offense, and we would love to see his smash-mouth style in the NFC North when the temperature drops and the snow starts falling.
San Francisco 49ers
Never say never. The 49ers could use another wide receiver, and no one knows how to utilize Samuel better than Kyle Shanahan. There is a history of proven success when it comes to Samuel playing in San Fran, and it wouldn't be crazy for both sides to want to run it back for one last stint.
