In this story:

Andrew Painter finally made his MLB debut last night for the Philadelphia Phillies. Painter is currently the No. 26 prospect in all of baseball and the Phillies No. 2 prospect. With tremendous hype and hopes of big performances, Painter flashed that against the Nationals in his debut. We are now led to break down the upside: Is Painter a viable fantasy baseball player?

Fantasy Baseball Ranking

Painter has been drafted in fantasy baseball as the SP89, just behind Sean Manaea, Bailey Ober, and ahead of Brady Singer and Brayan Bello. Painter is currently on the up and up in fantasy baseball, with a 33% ownership, rising 5% overnight. If you wish to add him, you must jump on it before Painter is owned over 50%.

Painter's arsenal is classic and effective. He throws a very strong fastball that reaches 97 MPH. Painter then throws his batters off with a duo of breaking balls: slider and curveball. He then adds a changeup and sinker. Standing at 6'7", Painter is deemed a very high-upside prospect with a massive body. The hope is that he becomes a top-3 pitcher in the Phillies rotation.

Last night, Painter went 5.1 IP, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 8 batters with 1 earned run. The output Painter saw was as good as fans could expect. He will rank highly in fantasy baseball.

The consensus is that you should absolutely pick up Painter. The sample size is small, but the expectations are sky-high. We will never find upside with current veterans that we may find with rookies, with the world in front of them.

Phillies Depth Chart Outlook

Painter is currently listed as the 5th pitcher in the Phillies' rotation, behind Taijuan Walker. In due time, this very well may change. Painter shall never get able to overtake Jesus Luzardo or Aaron Nola, but his spot in this rotation is solidified. Even when Zach Wheeler returns, it will be hard to find Painter sent to the bench unless we find bad output in the coming starts.

Working to Painter's advantage will be the Phillies' lineup. They are in the top half of MLB offenses. That fact will aid Painter's win-ability in fantasy baseball. If Painter continues to live up to expectations, the Phillies could be considered to have the best rotation in baseball, with Christopher Sanchez, Aaron Nola, Jesus Luzardo, Andrew Painter, and Zach Wheeler once he returns.
