Fayetteville Softball Regional: Schedule & Updates

For the fifth year in a row, the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks are hosting an NCAA Regional at Bogle Park May 16-18.
Oklahoma State, Indiana and Saint Louis will join Arkansas at the Fayetteville Regional.

Friday
Game 1 – Oklahoma State 11, Indiana 6
Trailing 6-4 in the sixth inning, Oklahoma State rallied for seven runs and came away with the victory. The Cowgirls never led until that inning.
Karli Godwin was 3-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored, five RBIs and a walk. For Indiana, Taylor Minnick also homered twice.
Rylee Crandall earned the win, pitching four innings in relief. She allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks.

Game 2 – Arkansas 10 vs. Saint Louis 0
Freshman Payton Burnham pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the Arkansas Razorbacks and was one free pass shy of perfection on Friday.
The Razorbacks scored five in the first, one in the second and four in the fourth.
Kailey Wyckoff was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and five RBIs. Raigan Kramer scored twice and Kennedy Miller drove in two.

Saturday
Game 3 – Oklahoma State vs. Arkansas
Courtney Day walked the Razorbacks off with a single to centerfield with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth. It was the program's first walk-off win in an NCAA Tournament game in program history.
Arkansas rallied back from a three-run deficit thanks to the late home run from shortstop Atalyia Rijo in the sixth inning and a three-run bottom of the seventh inning, tying the game.
Robyn Herron notched the win off four scoreless and hitless innings. Ruby Meylan was handed the loss.
Meylan and Rylee Crandall combined for four strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs on the day until the seventh inning, when Arkansas tied the game at 5-5.

Game 4 – Indiana 4, Saint Louis 2
The Hoosiers jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning off a double from Avery Parker.
Saint Louis got a run back in the third inning but IU scored two more in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1. Abby Mallo made it 4-2 with a solo shot in the fifth for the Bilikens.
Indiana pitcher Brianna Copeland picked up her 18th win of the season with five strikeouts, three walks, and only gave up two hits and two earned runs.

Game 5 – Indiana 8, Oklahoma State 16
Indiana's season came to an end after a high-scoring contest with Oklahoma State. The game saw a total of 24 runs, 28 hits, 10 doubles, a solo home run, and a grand slam. OSU also set an NCAA Tournament record for the most runs scored in an inning before recording an out.
The two teams also used a total of seven pitchers in the duel.
The Cowgirls erupted for 12 runs in the third and seemed to be en route to a run-rule win leading 13-2 but the Hoosiers scored six in the fourth and cut the deficit to 14-8.
However, OSU pulled away in the sixth inning, scoring two more runs and advancing to play Arkansas in the Regional final on Sunday.

Sunday
Game 6 – Arkansas 12, Oklahoma State 0
Oklahoma State‘s pitching staff struggled in the Regional final against the Arkansas Razorbacks, giving up 12 runs, four earned, in the 12-0 loss. Despite being touted as one of the most dominant pitching staffs in the Big 12, the Cowgirls conceded 24 earned runs in the regional.
Arkansas scored its 12 runs in the first, third, and sixth innings in a collective team effort, accumulating 14 hits, 12 RBIs, four doubles from Ella McDowell, Karlie Davidson, Raigan Kramer, and Kennedy Miller, and Davidson’s three-run home run.
Arkansas pitcher Robyn Herron went the distance for the Razorbacks with six shutout innings, two strikeouts, and allowed only three hits and one walk in the win that advanced the team to the Super Regionals.

Maren Angus-Coombs was born in Los Angeles and raised in Nashville, Tenn. She is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and has been a sports writer since 2008. She has been covering college softball since 2016 for various outlets including Softball America, ESPNW and Hurrdat Sports. She is currently the managing editor of Softball On SI and also serves as an analyst for Nebraska softball games on Nebraska Public Media and B1G+.

Allison Smith is an expert in leadership and organizational behavior in collegiate and professional women’s sports. Smith is a professor (Georgia State University), researcher, and writer. Smith holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in Kinesiology and Sport Studies. Smith’s research centers on combatting the underrepresentation of women leaders in sport, lack of organizational structure for work life integration for sport employees, and lack of programming and oversight for preparing athletes to transition to life after sport. Since graduating with a bachelor’s in journalism in 2011, Smith has sought opportunities to write about sports as a contributing writer focused on the growth of women’s collegiate, Olympic, and professional sports in this new age and movement for multiple outlets including Athletic Director U, and now Forbes.com. As a former Division I and II pitcher and Division III pitching coach Smith will bring unique insight and expertise to Softball on SI.
