Paige Bueckers’ Answer on Potential Azzi Fudd Reunion With Wings Raises Eyebrows

With the 2026 WNBA Draft now 10 days away, the interest about who the Dallas Wings will select with the No. 1 pick is picking up steam.
Many feel like it's inevitable that Dallas will select UConn Huskies star Azzi Fudd. Not only is she an elite talent whose game is polished enough to make an immediate impact, but her relationship with Paige Bueckers off the court also adds another layer to the Wings' decision.
But the decision to select Azzi with the No. 1 pick is not as obvious as it had been last year, when Dallas selected Bueckers, or when the Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark the year before. There are other compelling options, such as Spain's Awa Fam and TCU's Olivia Miles, that are surely making the Wings' front office think long and hard about whether to pair Bueckers with Fudd.

Paige Bueckers Weighs In on Possible Azzi Fudd Team-Up in Dallas
Bueckers is in Phoenix for a Team USA training camp and spoke with the media before UConn's Final Four game against South Carolina on April 3. She was asked about potentially the Wings potentially taking Fudd in the draft and offered an interesting response.
"That would be exciting. Again, I don't know all what I can say. I don't know what the future holds. But obviously, we've had a lot of games together under our belt, we've won a national championship together. So I think there's great success in that," Bueckers said, per an X post from @sacbabi.

Bueckers had a smile on her face when mentioning that she doesn't know all she can say, which has some fans suggesting that she might know more than she's leading on regarding the Wings' interest in Azzi.
It's safe to assume that the Wings have spoken with Paige about the potential of drafting Azzi, both given their on-court chemistry and their relationship off the court. However, there's no way of knowing how much Bueckers' opinion would have weighed into their decision to select her with that first pick.
It's also probably safe to assume that the Wings have already made their decision about who to select, and perhaps have known for a long time, But fans will have to wait until the draft takes place on April 13 to find out whether Fudd will be headed to the Wings, and how the rest of the draft will shape up after that.
