As runners, we “sweat” the details like sleep, nutrition, what apps to use on our runs and what post-run recovery shake or electrolyte powder we are going to have after logging our miles. Perhaps the most important detail is making sure you invest in a great pair of running shoes. After a long day on your feet at work, having a comfortable pair of running shoes makes the difference on getting you out the door. Rather than creating excuses about the dinner you have to make or the show you want to watch an episode of, these shoes will be the thing that make you say “yes” to a run. And you deserve to say yes.

Nike designed a running shoe that is so comfortable that you’ll find yourself saying yes, even after the longest of days—the InfinityRN 4. The first time I ran in the InfinityRN 4s, I found myself in disbelief with the amount of cushion and comfort—you truly feel like you are running on cloud nine. These shoes are an investment for miles and miles of saying “yes” ahead.

Nike InfinityRN 4 Overview

  • Sizes: 6-18
  • Cost: $160
  • Colors: Eight color options
  • Drop: 9 millimeters
  • Best for: Runners who like comfortable shoes and high cushioning

Here, I’ll dive into the features of the Nike InfinityRN 4, the pros and cons of the product and who the shoe is best for. I’ll share an overview of some customer reviews, plus detail my own experience running in these shoes to help you decide if these are the right pair for your training.

Construction and Design

  • Upper: The upper of the InfinityRN 4 is Nike’s new Flyknit upper—this material is breathable and flexible while still hugging your foot and keeping it in place as you run. I had plenty of room in the toe area, and an added bonus is the water-resistant liner in the upper. I took these out on a rainy run and my toes ended up more dry than usual.
  • Midsole: This is one of the biggest strengths of this shoe. The InfinityRN 4 uses Nike’s new ReactX foam, and in addition to saying it cuts down on its carbon footprint by at least 43 percent, Nike says this ReactX foam gives you 13 percent more energy return compared to the RN 3 model with its previous infinity foam.
  • Outsole: The InfinityRN 4 has Nike’s signature waffle outsole that creates durable traction, helping you confidently navigate wet pavement on a rainy day. It also has increased rubber, increasing durability against wear and tear on the shoe.

Customer Reviews

Customers love this shoe, all echoing comfortability, breathability, support and durability—which I experienced when running in the shoes, too. A lot of reviews speak to how the shoes are also great for walking and wearing to work. The ReactX foam is certainly a fan favorite amongst customers, and it is named as one of the softest foams out there while still reducing Nike’s carbon footprint. Stability, softness and rebound (responsiveness) are a hard combination to execute, and Nike has managed to balance all three.

Two of the trends that come up in customer reviews are the shoe’s weight and that Nike recommends ordering a half size up. The shoe weighs in at 353 grams (for a men’s 10), and normally, I might be concerned about a running shoe this heavy. (However, when running in them myself, it doesn't feel like a heavy shoe.) I would caution against any hesitation you may have, thinking this isn’t a “light and fast” shoe on paper. In actuality, this shoe will allow you to go fall into that rhythm every runner strives for and enjoy the miles ahead. As for the second concern, if you are worried about toe room or the knit being a bit too snug, just order a half size up.

What We Love

  • All-new Nike ReactX foam creates extra “bounce” and cushion
  • Tons of cushion to soften impact
  • High level of support for your achilles, from the curved outsole, and from the internal Flyknit fit band
  • More environmentally friendly than past models
  • Incredibly comfortable shoe

What to Consider

  • Some reviewers find the shoe runs small, consider ordering a half-size up
  • High price point

Who the Nike InfinityRN 4 Is Best For

I personally love the Nike InfinityRN 4 for a jog around the neighborhood, a longer distance run and anything in between. I echo the customer reviews that spoke to how these are great for a walk or keeping your feet comfortable during a long workday.

Running in the Nike InfinityRN 4

The first time I went out for a jog in the Nike InfinityRN 4s, I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike other shoes that can take quite a bit of time to break in, this shoe was phenomenal right out of the box. This shoe is unbelievably comfortable. As mentioned in construction and design, the upper hugs your foot just right, the ReactX foam in the midsole is both cushioned and responsive (as I said before, a tough combo to get just right) and the outsole provides traction and durability I want for a shoe I plan to put some heavy miles on. Unlike other shoes that don’t have the same solid, rubber coverage on the outside, this shoe is bound to last.

I also took them on a tempo run and was happy with how the shoe supported increases in speed. While this shoe isn’t designed for speed per se—due to its cushioned features—I was still able to easily transition between paces.

Nike InfinityRN 4 FAQs

How long do the Nike InfinityRN shoes last?

Most reviews have these shoes lasting close to or over 500 miles, putting them at the top end of the lifespan of an average running shoe. (You should replace your shoes every 300 to 500 miles, or when the cushioning starts breaking down.)

Are the Nike InfinityRN good for flat feet?

Yes, I am a flat-footed runner myself—flat-footed runners tend to over-pronate, and this shoe has a wide base for better stability, one of many reasons it’s recommended by Nike as one of the brand’s top three running shoes for flat feet. Another feature of this shoe that makes it great for flat-footed runners is its high-rise cushion. This keeps more of your foot’s surface in contact with the shoe, giving added control and cushioning to protect against over-pronation.

What is special about the Nike InfinityRN?

As mentioned throughout the review, some of the biggest shifts since the last iteration of the InfinityRN include Nike’s new Flyknit upper, Nike’s new ReactX foam on the midsole which gives you more energy and reduces Nike’s carbon footprint and the improved outsole, which provides more support.

Final Thoughts: Is the Nike InfinityRN 4 Right for You?

This shoe has it all—comfort, support, responsiveness, breathability and versatility. Whether you are going for a walk around the neighborhood or lacing up for a seven-mile run, this shoe is bound to help your feet remain comfortable every step of the way.
