Sunderland haven't always had the best or most amount of goal-scorers in their ranks, but this season they seem to have found a bit of flair.

Jack Clarke has lit up the Championship since signing permanently from Spurs last summer, having already netted eight times and assisted nine more, with 20 total goal contributions in all competitions.

But how does he compare to some of the previous Black Cats names to hit 20 goal contributions in a single season?

Jack Clarke

Clarke has now hit double figures in goals and assists for Sunderland this season. The young winger has 10 goals and 10 assists to his name, 17 of his goal contributions have been in the Championship whilst the other three came in the FA Cup.

Ross Stewart

Stewart has missed most of the current campaign through injury, only making 15 appearances for Sunderland. Despite Stewart’s time on the pitch, he's still managed to claim 14 goal contributions in those games.

It was last season however when Stewart’s best season in a red and white shirt occurred. The ‘Loch Ness Drogba’ scored 26 goals for Sunderland last season and had five assists to his name. Two of the Scot's 26 goals came in the play-offs to help guide Sunderland to promotion.

Charlie Wyke

The season prior to Stewart’s 26 goal haul former Sunderland striker Wyke hit 31 goals and five assists - Wyke was the first Sunderland player since Kevin Phillips to score 30 goals in a season.

Wyke would move to Wigan Athletic on a free transfer following the conclusion of the season and has seven goals and four assists in 34 games since joining the Latics almost two years ago.

Aiden McGeady (twice)

McGeady achieved 20 goal contributions twice whilst a Sunderland player the first of which came in Sunderland’s first season in League One in the 2018/19 season - McGeady scored 14 goals and assisted six.

The Republic of Ireland international then achieved the feat once again in the 2020/21 season with six goals and 18 assists. McGeady only played 36 games that season and still managed 24 goal contributions.

Chris Maguire

The last Sunderland player to hit double figures in goals and assists prior to Jack Clarke was Maguire. The Scotland international scored 11 and assisted 13 in the 2019/20 season.

Maguire left Sunderland on a free transfer at the end of the 2020/21 season having played 125 times for the club, with 28 goals and 26 assists.
