Danny Collins hails Sunderland youngster who has a 'good future ahead of him'

Former Sunderland man Danny Collins has tipped Pierre Ekwah for a bright future.
Collins last played for Sunderland in 2009. He made more than 150 total appearances for the Black Cats, having also had spells with the likes of Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, and Grimsby Town after his Stadium of Light departure.
But it appears that the former defender is paying attention to his former club, and to one player in particular; Ekwah.
The Frenchman is proving to be one of Sunderland's best signings of the past year. He joined from West Ham in January and has since made 21 total Championship appearances for the Black Cats, having played in all five of their opening league games this season.
Speaking on a recent episode of SAFC Unfiltered, Collins said of the 21-year-old:
“He is coming on really well. He is getting regular football; I think he knows he is a fixture in the team. The manager has given him trust and it has shown in his performances.
“He is doing all the things you want from a central midfielder. You know, taking the ball, good feet, scoring goals, tackles flying in, so yes, he has a good future ahead of him.”
A star in the making...
Sunderland fans have really warmed to Ekwah.
His talent was clear to see last season but after a pre-season, it looks like the former West Ham man has really settled into the Championship.
He looks to be gaining confidence too, having scored his first goals for the club in the win over Southampton last time out, so this season could really be a breakthrough one for the youngster.
Tony Mowbray will be hoping that Ekwah can say injury-free this year and that teams don't take an interest in the midfielder ahead of January.
