Interest in Sunderland's Jack Clarke is rife ahead of the summer transfer window officially opening next week.

Premier League trio Brentford, Burnley, and Crystal Palace were all reported to have made bids at the end of last month.

Sunderland are keen to tie the 22-year-old down to a new contract but Sunderland Nation recently revealed that those contract talks have hit something of an impasse - Clarke remains under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2026.

And now, an emerging report from The Northern Echo has revealed that Burnley's bid for the former Leeds United and Spurs man stands at just £7million, with the offer having potential to rise to £10million should certain add-ons come into play.

The same report adds that the Black Cats feel like that offer 'seriously undervalues' Clarke, who Spurs signed for a similar fee in 2019.

Clarke's nine goals and 12 assists last season showed the progression he's made as a player. He endured a really tough time at Spurs, with numerous loan spells proving to do very little for his development.

But at Sunderland, Clarke is starting to realise the potential that persuaded Spurs into snapping him up as a teen, and the Black Cats perhaps have every right to want more for their star man.

What next?

It's almost a waiting game for Sunderland. Contract renewal talks are at a standstill and so it's a case of dealing with any offers that come in, as and when they come.

But an initial £7million for Clarke is almost insulting. He was one of the standout players in the Championship last season and he remains under contract for a few more years, so Tony Mowbray and co may be expecting much closer to £20million for Clarke this summer.

The transfer window officially opens for business on Tuesday next week.
