Kristjaan Speakman on the possibility of free agent signings at Sunderland

Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has played down the chances of free agent signings.
The summer transfer window ended a week ago today.
Deadline day was another frantic one for the Black Cats who saw Ross Stewart leave the club for Southampton, with a handful of players coming the other way including striker Nazariy Rusyn.
In total, Sunderland signed 11 new players this summer. It will be viewed as a positive summer transfer window for the Black Cats who continue on their path to the Premier League, with some exciting young players having joined the club this summer.
And it looks like the club's transfer business is finished for the time being.
When asked about the possibility of Sunderland looking at the free agent market this month, Speakman was quoted as saying:
"We always assess the market but it’s not something we’re looking at in terms of thinking, ‘can we get this one [position].’ 100% not, definitely not.
"We’re really, really comfortable with where we ended up on the back of those deals we got done at the end of the window."
No need for free agents...
Sunderland showed their prowess in the transfer market this summer.
They weren't afraid to spend money and they also tested the markets in different areas of the world, showing their reach in the transfer market.
And with so many new players having joined, and most positions having been stocked up well, Tony Mowbray now has a good squad to work with, so there doesn't seem to be a need for free agent signings right now.
Other clubs in the Championship will no doubt take a look, especially those who couldn't get their final deals over the line.
But for Sunderland, on the whole, it looks like a good summer transfer window.
