Championship rivals QPR are still looking into a potential deal for long-standing Sunderland man Lynden Gooch, says Alan Nixon.

Gooch, 27, has been with Sunderland for more than 10 years now.

The American arrived in 2012 and he's since racked up close to 250 total appearances for the Black Cats, having played for the club in the Premier League, Championship, and League One.

But now in the final year of his contract at the club, it looks like Gooch could be one of the players that Sunderland look to move on before September 1st, and QPR have already been linked with the right wing-back this summer.

And taking to Twitter, Nixon revealed (via Inside Futbol) that QPR remain keen on striking a deal for Gooch, but only if the deal is right for them.

Gareth Ainsworth's side have had a tough start to the 2023/24 season, losing two of their opening three games, and it looks like they'll make an effort to sign some new players before the end of the summer transfer window.

Gooch on the move?

Gooch has been a very loyal servant for the Black Cats.

He's had spells in and out of the side and he's had spells where he received some criticism for his performances, but on the whole he's been a decent player for the club.

Still, it looks like he's falling down the pecking order under Tony Mowbray. His recent injury didn't help his cause and with his contract out next summer, a sale could be on the cards.

Though whether QPR and Sunderland can agree on a deal remains to be seen. QPR won't want to pay much and Sunderland will still want a good deal, so it could be one with a few stumbling blocks.
