Report shares update on Edouard Michut's Sunderland future as PSG loan ends

Sunderland used the loan market to effect in the 2022/23 season.
Sunderland signed the likes of Amad Diallo and Edouard Michut on loan last summer, and Joe Gelhardt in the January transfer window.
Diallo is set to return to Manchester United where a potentially exciting summer lies ahead whilst Gelhardt is returning to Leeds United who could yet be going up against Sunderland in the Championship next season.
But Michut was potentially set to stay. He arrived on a loan deal with an option for the Black Cats to buy, and reports earlier in the year tipped Sunderland to take up that option which stands at a reported €2.5million.
Now though, a report from The Northern Echo has played down the possibility of Sunderland signing Michut on a permanent deal from PSG this summer.
Scott Wilson writes that Sunderland 'looking increasingly unlikely' to sign Michut this summer.
Michut racked up 25 Championship appearances for Sunderland, scoring once in the 2-1 loss v Sheffield United back in March.
He became an important first-team player under Tony Mowbray with Michut coming into the squad on a more regular basis in the second half of the campaign.
What next for Michut?
Michut might face a contested summer upon his return to PSG. He'll no doubt be low down in the pecking order and so another loan move seems likely.
But the fact that Sunderland had an option to buy suggests that the Parisians would be open to a sale and so Michut could yet find a new, permanent home in the summer.
Championship clubs would've got a good look at him when they played the Black Cats this season, but there may be reservations about Michut's physical game and his ability to really prevail in the second tier.
And Sunderland could yet revisit the player as they know how technically good he is. But for now it seems like Michut to Sunderland isn't happening.
