Ross Stewart back at Sunderland and in 'positive' mood after surgery
Ross Stewart is back on Wearside and already on the road to recovery following Achilles surgery, Tony Mowbray has confirmed.
Stewart was in incredible form when he suffered the injury as he tried to latch onto a pass at Fulham. It immediately looked like a season-ending injury, and a few days later that was confirmed.
It wasn’t as a serious a problem as first feared, though, and he is expected to be back in time for the start of pre-season training should he had a smooth rehabilitation.
Stewart spent the first part of that in Scotland, but his is now back at Sunderland and is bringing his natural positivity to the squad in other ways.
"Ross has been around," Mowbray said. "He's good to be around, he's a really positive guy. It's important to come and do rehabilitation in the training ground and be around all the lads.
"He's an important figure in the dressing room. So while he might have a big plaster on his leg, he's still got an opinion on what's right and wrong and what we should and shouldn't be doing. They're really important to have around the building."
Tony Mowbray has also issued a contract update on Stewart, with him hopeful of some positive news ‘in the near future.’
