Sunderland man named in provisional England U21 side ahead of Euros

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has been called up to the England U21 provisional squad for this summer's European Championships.
Former Everton midfielder Lee Carsley is the man in charge of the Young Lions, and he's named his provisional side for this summer's European Championships which will be hosted in Roumania and Georgia.
And Sunderland's very own Patterson has been named in the provisional side. The 23-year-old remains eligible for the tournament as he was under the age of 21 when the qualification process for the tournament began.
Patterson has already racked up 77 total appearances for the Black Cats after his breakthrough in the 2021/22 season. He would go on to play in all 46 of Sunderland's Championship games in the season just concluded and he kept 14 clean sheets.
His performances were so impressive that he's since been linked with the likes of Leicester City and Wolves.
Now though, Patterson's focus will be on the European Championships which take place across June and July. England are in a group with Czech Republic, Germany, and Israel.
A bright future...
Patterson is one of the best and most exciting players to come out of the Sunderland academy in a long time.
He's a very commanding goalkeeper who never backs out of a challenge. He's also an amazing shot-stopper with his 14 clean sheets in the Championship last season proving that.
This summer will be a great experience for him and he'll return to Sunderland with his first international caps under his belt, which is a credit to how he's performed this season.
Tony Mowbray might yet have a fight on his hands to keep Patterson at the club going into the next season, but if he eventually moves on then he'll pocket the Black Cats a big transfer fee.
