Sunderland new boy Nazariy Rusyn recently played for the club's U21s.

The striker started in a 3-1 win over Derby County's U21s; earning an assist for the opening goal and then later winning a penalty.

It comes after Rusyn's deadline day move from Ukraine and after the 24-year-old made his debut n the 1-0 defeat v Cardiff City on Sunday.

And Chronicle Live reporter James Hunter was quick to praise the striker, saying that he played a starring role in the win and that he caught the eye, with first-team boss Tony Mowbray watching on.

Rusyn was a summer-long target for the Black Cats who had a busy deadline day, with Ross Stewart going to Southampton as Rusyn arrived.

The Black Cats remain in 5th place of the Championship table despite Sunday's defeat, which ended a run of three-straight wins for Sunderland.

Rusyn coming into the side...

Rusyn is a player that's been on Sunderland's radar for a while and so Mowbray and co will know exactly what to expect from him.

He's a very sharp and forward-thinking attacker who looks like he has really good dribbling and passing skills, which we saw on display in his performance for the U21s.

He'll no doubt take a while to get up to match fitness and up to speed with how Mowbray and Sunderland play, but he looks like a promising signing and Mowbray could well give him some ore minutes against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

That game kicks off at 8pm and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
