Sunderland's season has been a memorable one, with the Black Cats chasing a late and unexpected play-off finish.

Tony Mowbray's side could yet achieve the unexpected when they face Preston North End on Monday.

The Black Cats need a win to stand a chance of leapfrogging Millwall in 6th place of the Championship table, making for an exciting climax to this 2022/23 season.

But who are Sunderland's highest-rated players so far this season? Here's their top three according to WhoScored...

Amad Diallo - WhoScored rating 7.01

Diallo will go down as one of Sunderland's best loan signings in history. The Manchester United man has gone from strength to strength in the Championship, scoring 12 league goals and claiming three assists for himself.

The chances of him returning to the Stadium of Light in any kind of capacity in the future seems slim, but Mowbray will be hoping that Diallo can provide a spark in Monday's game at Deepdale, and then in some potential play-off fixtures later this month.

Jack Clarke - WhoScored rating 7.07

Clarke is many Sunderland fans' Player of the Season. Signed on a permanent basis from Spurs last summer, the youngster has taken his game to a whole new level under Mowbray, scoring eight and assisting 10 in the Championship so far this season.

He's showing bags of potential and has even been touted as a potential summer transfer target for Crystal Palace - a credit to his performances this season, but bad news for Sunderland.

Ross Stewart - WhoScored rating 7.52

It had to be. Despite being limited to just 13 Championship outings this season, Stewart has really asserted himself as one of the best strikers in the country.

He's netted 10 goal and assisted three more in the Championship this season, with two lengthy injury blows having kept him out for the bulk of the campaign.

He's back in pre-season and fans will be hoping he can stay injury-free next time round.
