Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray says he and the club are yet to make a decision on Edouard Michut' future, as his loan spell from PSG draws to a end.

Michut joined Sunderland on loan from French giants PSG last summer. It was an exciting signing but one that initially disappointed, with Michut picking up an injury early on and then struggling to break into Mowbray's first-team plans.

But as the seasons gone on, Michut has become an increasingly prominent name in Mowbray's starting XI, having racked up 23 Championship appearances to date and scoring once.

Amid injuries to the likes of Corry Evans and Elliot Embleton in the middle of the park, Michut has become more involved. The 20-year-old has featured in all but two of Sunderland's fixtures in 2023 and he's started many of them, but what the summer holds for the youngster remains to be seen.

Sunderland have an option to buy Michut for a reported €2.5million. Recent reports have suggested that the Black Cats were expected to trigger that option, but asked what the latest on Michut's future was , Mowbray said that the club is undecided.

He told Sunderland Echo:

"We haven’t made a decision. We have to decide if the cost for Edouard is appropriate for the team."

Michut is a very good technical player and he suits the style of play at Sunderland very well.

But he perhaps needs another season or so to get used to the physicality of the Championship and so it's certainly a big decision for Sunderland and Mowbray to make, as €2.5million is a lot of money in the second tier,

Sunderland head to Preston North End on Monday afternoon in what is their final league game of the 2022/23 season - the Black Cats need a win to stand a chance of finishing inside the play-off places.
