Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is under consideration at Southampton, according to reports.

It's been a whirlwind 24 hours for Mowbray. Not even 24 hours, in fact - his side crashed out of the Championship play-off semi-finals at the hands of Luton Town last night, and since, it's been suggested that he faces the axe.

TalkSPORT reported this morning that Mowbray is now fighting to save his job at the Stadium of Light after Sunderland's play-off exit. There's been murmurings of Mowbray potentially leaving this summer for a while now, and it seems like the Black Cats' hierarchy are seriously considering a change in management.

It comes as a surprise to many - not only Sunderland fans but to many who follow the English Football League. What's not so surprising to hear is that Mowbray is already beginning to attract the attention of other clubs, before he's even left his post at the Stadium of Light.

An emerging report from Football League World this morning revealed that the 59-year-old coach is under consideration at Southampton, with the Saints having been relegated to the Championship.

Ruben Selles is the man currently in charge but he's only on a short-term contract, meaning that the Saints will go in search of a new and permanent manager in the summer month.

Football League World's report also says that Swansea City boss Russell Martin is under consideration, and also that part of the Saints' appointment process 'will be to ask prospective new managers to recommend signings that they believe will ensure that Southampton can bounce back up next term'.

Mowbray, should he become available in the summer, will no doubt be one of the most in-demand names in management after his hugely impressive season with Sunderland in the Championship.

But he remains at the club for now and reports this morning have suggested that he and the club are looking towards the summer transfer window and towards next season.
