Despite the season not being over just yet, Sunderland have an eye on the summer transfer window.

Sunderland still have at least two play-off fixtures left to play. They go up against Luton Town in the first of two play-off semi-final legs on Saturday, and the Black Cats could yet be heading to Wembley for a second time in as many seasons.

Despite not knowing what league they'll be playing in next year, Tony Mowbray has revealed that he and Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman are readying for the summer transfer window.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, Mowbray had this to say:

“As I sit here now, the wheels are rolling. They are in motion. It’s good, because the wheels need to move. This year has shown that.

“I’m involved in the recruitment. Kristjaan is coming into my office and we are discussing players. Everything lands on my laptop for me to look at and check – snapshots of players from around the world that we have on our radar. I always give them feedback.

"I tell them, ‘He’s good, I like this one, I think this one is better than that one’. But, obviously, the conversations will be different depending on what league we’re in next season.”

As head coach, Mowbray doesn't have the final say in Sunderland's transfers. But he seems to be heavily involved in the process and given how well Sunderland have performed under him this season, he should be.

Whilst attentions are turning towards the summer and next season though, all focus will be on Luton Town and the first leg at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

It's going to be a memorable occasion for Sunderland fans who've turned out in numbers all season.

The game kicks off at 5:30pm on Saturday and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
