Caitlin Clark’s Career-High 8 Threes Power Fever Past Sky: Takeaways

The Indiana Fever ended their road trip with a victory over the Chicago Sky, thanks to a brilliant performance from Caitlin Clark.

The Indiana Fever emerged from their grueling five-game road trip relatively unscathed, and with a 3-2 record. The final contest in the five-games in eight days came on the second night of a back-to-back and with a victory over the Chicago Sky.

The Fever were led by Caitlin Clark, who got going early and never let her foot off the gas. Clark set a career-high with eight three-pointers, scoring 37 points in total. She also added 10 assists, for yet another 30-point, 10-assist performance, a category in which she has no peer.

Clark said after the team's loss to the New York Liberty Saturday that there would be "no excuses" and that the game against the Sky was an opportunity to bounce back quick.

She reiterated that after the contest. "You can tell yourself you're tired, or you can tell yourself you're going to go out and dominate," Clark said on NBC postgame. She added that she knew it was going to be one of those nights for her before tip-off.

Clark was once again joined by Kelsey Mitchell, who got off to a slow start but in typical fashion wound up scoring in bunches anyway. Mitchell hit six threes of her own, finishing with 30 points as the pair were able to more than carry the load on the scoreboard in the absence of Aliyah Boston.

"Nobody better to be in the backcourt with," Clark said.

Lexie Hull Comes Alive Offensively

The All-Star backcourt got some assistance from Lexie Hull in this one. Hull has had a quiet season offensively, but had one of her better outings of the year.

She scored 14 points, chipping in two threes as well.

"For me, it's fitting where I can," Hull told me about her role in the offense on Saturday prior to the Liberty game.

"Being efficient. I'm not averaging a lot of shot attempts per game, but making sure I can capitalize on those when I get them. Spreading the floor, making good decisions on the offensive side. Our starting lineup has so many threats. But I think for me just being out there and executing what we want, and moving the ball for the best shot possible," Hull added.

She did all that against the Sky.

Second-year forward Makayla Timpson continued to shine as well. Timpson had 12 points on 6-for-7 from the field, many coming on great dishes from Clark. She also snared 9 rebounds.

The Fever have one more game before the FIBA World Cup break (Clark and Boston are part of Team USA), Friday at home against the Connecticut Sun. It will give them a chance to start another winning streak they can resume in September.
