BREAKING: DeAndre Hopkins released by Arizona Cardinals

Former Clemson Tigers and All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was released by the Cardinals on Friday. He's now one of the most coveted free agents in the NFL.

After a long and arduous saga, DeAndre Hopkins' time in Arizona is done following news that the Cardinals had released the 3x All-Pro wide receiver. Hopkins is now free to sign with whichever team he chooses.

The reasoning behind the move seems clear: Hopkins was owed a whopping $30.75 million in 2023, tops in the NFL for a wideout. A break with the Cardinals has seemed like a sure thing since the end of the season, but Hopkins never said officially that he wanted to leave.

"I see everyone telling me to stay," Hopkins said on Instagram. "Who said I wanted to go? Who said I wanted to leave? I'm out here working, baby."

Hopkins has been with Arizona since 2020. His first season with the Cardinals was a huge success, seeing him haul in 115 catches for 1,407 yards and 6 touchdowns, but the next two seasons were hindered by injuries. Over the past couple of seasons, Hopkins played in just 19 games and caught fewer passes combined over those two seasons than in 2020.

Over his ten-year NFL career, DeAndre Hopkins has consistently produced huge numbers, accumulating 11,298 yards. His best seasons came with Houston Texans, but he undoubtedly still has more in the tank. Hopkins will turn 31 on June 6th.

During his time at Clemson, Hopkins put up incredible numbers. He ranks second in Clemson history in career receiving yards (3,020) and single-season receiving yards (1,405), trailing just Sammy Watkins in each category.
