Mackenzie Holmes Named Associated Press Third Team All-American

Mackenzie Holmes, Indiana's all-time scorer, is averaging 20 points per game this season and earned more All-American accolades Wednesday. It's her third-straight AP All-American honors.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women’s basketball forward Mackenzie Holmes was named to the Associated Press All-American third team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Holmes has picked up eight All-American accolades in her five-season Indiana career. She made the AP All-American first team in 2022-23 and received an All-American honorable mention in 2021-22. On Tuesday, Holmes was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-American second team.

Holmes leads the Hoosiers by averaging 20 points per game this season, shooting 66.7% from the field. She became the program’s all-time leading scorer versus Purdue in February and leads the program in career field goals. Back on March 3, Holmes injured her knee on Senior Day and then only played five minutes in Indiana’s opening game in the Big Ten Tournament.

On Sunday, Holmes revealed that her knee feels better with much-needed rest. Last season, Holmes’ knee injury hampered her performance, as well as the team’s, arguably, in an eventual second-round exit. But Holmes noted Sunday that she feels better about her knee this March than last. The No. 4 seed Hoosiers will play No. 13 seed Fairfield at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round.
