Cian Mahoney is looking for a college capable of extracting the most out of his football ability. He sees Iowa being able to accomplish that.

The Hawkeyes played host to the 2026 Springfield (IL) Sacred Heart-Griffin offensive lineman this past weekend. He left town viewing the program as a good fit for him.

"I learned that Iowa treats their players very well, and that's something I would like to be a part of," Mahoney said. "They treat their players well because they spend time developing and coaching their players while some other schools spend lots of time recruiting."

Mahoney (6-5, 250) shines during his sophomore highlights as a run blocker and in pass protection. He's powerful and plays with good balance.

Iowa offensive line coach George Barnett spent time with Mahoney during the junior day. He shared tips for improvement.

"We talked about what I needed to improve and what I'm doing well. He also taught me about what the Iowa offensive line is about," Mahoney said.

Illinois played host to Mahoney for a game last season. He appreciated finding out more about the Hawkeyes last weekend.

"I enjoyed getting to learn about what Iowa football is all about. They have a winning tradition because it's a great program with a great staff," he said.

In addition to Iowa and Illinois, Mahoney said he's heard from Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Kansas. He grew up rooting for Oregon.

"I don't have any visits scheduled yet, but I plan to attend as many camps as I can this summer," he said.

Academics will play a pivotal role in Mahoney's choice of college.

"I am interested in majoring in one of these three - Business, Finance or Agriculture. I'm unsure as of now," he said.
