Oklahoma Women's Basketball Rises One Spot in AP Poll

After an impressive week, the Sooners found climbed another spot in this week's edition of the AP Top 25 Poll.

Following another 2-0 week for Oklahoma, Jennie Baranczyk's squad rose another spot in the AP Poll to No. 23.  

In last Monday's AP Poll, the Sooners' found themselves at No. 24 after previously being unranked. Since then, OU took down TCU by 17 and Iowa State by 14 to continue what has been an impressive win streak. 

Baranczyk and company have won eight consecutive games, all over conference opponents. The last Sooners' loss came over a month ago on Jan. 10, when No. 12 Kansas State took down Oklahoma. 

OU, however, would get its revenge a few weeks later, when Skylar Vann and company defeated the Wildcats, who were then ranked No. 2 in the nation, 66-63.

In OU's most recent victories, Vann and junior guard Payton Verhulst led the way with Vann tallying 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block against the Horned Frogs while Verhulst chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. 

Against the Cyclones on Saturday, Verhulst finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals while Vann added 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Coming in at No. 23, the Sooners are one spot ahead West Virginia and two spots behind Baylor. Kansas State sits at No. 7 while Texas, who Oklahoma also knocked off during their impressive win streak, is ranked No. 5 in this week's AP Poll.

OU will look to continue its dominant stretch of play against No. 21 Baylor on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT from the Lloyd Noble Center.
