CLASS IMPACT: Four-Star SG Vyctorius Miller Commits to Oregon Ducks

Major Oregon target Vyctorius Miller announced his commitment to Oregon Wednesday evening, what should Duck fans expect?

The commitment of four-star shooting guard Vyctorius Miller likely puts an end to the high school commitments for Oregon’s 2024 class. The 6-foot-5 guard had been a long-time target and visited Oregon in May.

What is Oregon getting with Miller?

Miller certainly has some developing to do, but one thing nearly everyone agrees on is that Miller is a scorer. Every time up and down the court he's looking to do so, and is a three-level scorer.

Miller has a lot to be desired other than just scoring, such as his frame and long arms, comfortability on or off ball, ability to get downhill quickly, and being a good athlete. A big part of his game that needs improvement is his decision-making.

He tends to turn the ball over more than the Oregon staff would like and that figures to be an immediate focus upon his arrival. Defense is another focus point for Miller. He has long arms and a good frame, but needs to add the college weight or he could get pushed around.

When I look at Miller, I see a player that definitely needs time in terms of development and size, but his skillset won’t allow Dana Altman to keep him on the bench for long. I think Miller has the ability to start as a sophomore, but only time will tell. Hiss scoring will likely make him a fan favorite at Oregon and scoring from the guard position has been very much desired since Payton Pritchard went pro.

As for the rest of the class, where do they stand?

Mali native Ibrahima Traore and Florida Southwestern (JUCO) transfer Dezdrick Lindsay have both already signed their national letter of intent. Prior to Miller's commitment, the Ducks had the 94th-ranked class nationally according to 247Sports, and the 17th-ranked class in the Big Ten recruiting rankings.

Following Miller’s commitment, the Ducks have leapfrogged all the way up to 44th nationally, and 10th in the Big Ten according to 247 Sports. On3 has the Ducks class prior to Miller at 92nd nationally, and 17th in the Big Ten. After Miller’s commitment the Ducks have moved up to 59th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten according to On3.

Men’s basketball recruiting has seemingly been on a very inconsistent schedule, with almost every other year being a loaded year for transfers and very few freshmen. I would guess that Dana Altman will look for another junior college player to fill out his roster and with a few transfers from the Power Five or mid-major ranks.

Should we dare look ahead?

Oregon already holds a commitment from the state’s highest-rated player according to 247, in Isaac Carr from Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic. The scouting report on Carr will continue to grow following his junior year, but as of now he's a good facilitator that is capable of playing both on and off ball.

Carr is a good jump shooter as well and will continue to develop his game over the next two years before coming to Eugene.
