On Saturday, Cam Norrie, a former three-time TCU All-American and current No. 1 British player, was eliminated from the US Open. He lost in the Round of 32, the tournament’s third round, to Matteo Arnaldi of Italy.

The US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year, began on August 28 and runs through September 10 at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.

Norrie began play in this year’s US Open with a straight-set win over Alexander Shevchenko on Tuesday, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

In the second round, it was another straight-set victory on Thursday. He defeated Yu Hsiou of Chinese Taipei 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.

Then, in the third round on Saturday, it was a straight-set match that went the other way. Norrie lost 3-6, 4-6, 3-6. Arnaldi advanced to the Round of 16, where he will face No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz for a ticket to the quarterfinals.

This was Norrie’s sixth appearance in the US Open. His best result came last year when he advanced to the fourth round after three straight-set victories, including a sweep over current world No. 4 Holger Rune.

Norrie holds a 9-7 career US Open record and is 29-24 in Grand Slams. The British world No. 1, Norrie is the highest-ranked former collegian competing at the US Open.

Norrie played for three years at TCU (2015-2017) and earned All-American honors each year. In his junior year (2017), he became the first player in program history to finish the season ranked No. 1 in the ITA Singles poll. He also set the TCU season singles winning percentage at .955 after going 21-1 at the No. 1 position that year.
