Arizona Diamondbacks' Manager Had Hilarious Reaction to San Diego Padres' Big Trade From This Week

Earlier this week, the San Diego Padres acquired starting pitcher Dylan Cease in a blockbuster deal with the Chicago White Sox, marking another star player to come into the National League West this offseason. Arizona Diamondbacks' manager Torey Lovullo is unamused by that.

Arizona Diamondbacks' manager Torey Lovullo is unamused by yet another star coming into the National League West this offseason.

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, on hearing that the Padres acquired Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease:

“I wish the best players would quit coming to the NL West.’’

It's an understandable sentiment for Lovullo, who is hoping to take his team back to the World Series this season.

Just this offseason alone, the Los Angeles Dodgers have brought in Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Teoscar Hernandez, James Paxton and Tyler Glasnow.

The San Francisco Giants have brought in Jung-Hoo Lee, Jordan Hicks, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler and Robbie Ray.

The Padres have lost stars like Juan Soto, Blake Snell, Josh Hader and Michael Wacha, but still have a solid core of Manny Machado, Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts and Joe Musgrove. Not to mention they just brought in Cease, one of the best strikeout artists in the game.

However, Lovullo's squad has also contributed to the depth of the division, acquiring Eugenio Suarez and Eduardo Rodriguez this offseason. They also re-signed fan favorite outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

The Dodgers won the division a season ago but were eliminated in the NLDS by the Diamondbacks, who eventually went on to lose to the Texas Rangers in the World Series. Arizona finished second while San Diego finished third, San Francisco fourth and the lowly Colorado Rockies finished last.

The Dodgers and Padres open up on March 20 in Korea as part of the "Korea Series" while the D'Backs and the rest of baseball open up on March 28.
