Like the rest of baseball on Thursday, the Boston Red Sox released their schedule for the 2024 season.

The Sox were dealt a tough hand from the schedule makers as they'll begin the year with a 10-game road trip that starts in Seattle.

Back in 2019, the Sox started the year with an 11-game road trip through Seattle, Oakland and Arizona and went just 3-8, setting the tone for a mediocre season in which they missed the playoffs.

MLB.com put out some other news and notes on the schedule:

After a season-opening 10-game road trip, baseball will return to Fenway Park on April 9, when the Red Sox host the Orioles. Later that month, the Cubs will arrive in Boston for only their fourth regular-season series at Fenway and first since 2017. It’s been even longer since the Red Sox have hosted the Padres (2013), who will bring Xander Bogaerts back to Boston for what is sure to be an emotional return from June 28-30

Bogaerts starred in Boston from 2013-2022 and helped the Sox win the World Series in both 2013 and 2018. He signed a massive deal with the Padres this past offseason and his return figures to be an emotional one for Red Sox fans.

While the beginning of the season starts with a tough trip, the Sox weren't given many favors at the end of the season, either. They'll end the year with three games at home but will play 10 of their final 16 games on the road.

Boston will also play a spring training series in the Dominican Republic against the Tampa Bay Rays next year.
