Oregon Guard Rivaldo Soares Enters Transfer Portal
Another Oregon Basketball player has entered the transfer portal.
Rivaldo Soares became the fourth member from this year's Ducks team to enter the transfer portal, announcing his decision on Monday morning.
The senior guard was a key contributor as a starter this season, averaging 28.1 minutes a game and playing in all 35 games. The Boston (Mass.) native averaged 7.3 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. Soares shot 38.2% from the field, and 24.7% from three.
There were a few bright spots for Soares during his time in Eugene, one being his game-winner against rival Oregon State, and a 21-point double-double in the first round of the NIT against UC Irvine.
While there were some great performances, there were a lot of poor performances. Those include four games shooting 0% from the floor, and two games where he was held scoreless.
Soares transferred to Oregon ahead of his junior season in 2021 after spending his first two seasons at South Plains College in Teax.. While in junior college, Soares earned accolades such as NJCAA First-Team all-American, and Western Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
His departure leaves the guard rotation in question, and one of the biggest question marks is 2023 guard Bronny James, who is currently predicted to choose USC over finalists Oregon and Ohio State. At this point the only guards guaranteed to be on the roster next season are senior Jermaine Cousinard , and incoming freshman Jackson Shelstad.
Oregon does have a pledge from junior college transfer Jadrian Tracey, and impending decisions from junior Keeshawn Barthelemy and sophomre Brennan Rigsby.
Dana Altman has a lot of work to do in the portal this offseason along with signing yet another assistant coach, as Armon Gates left Oregon for Oklahoma after one season in Eugene.
