Weekend Primer: No. 19 South Carolina Vs. No. 10 Clemson

South Carolina's baseball team is ready for their annual series with their archrivals in the Clemson Tigers, but Mother Nature may have other plans.

Baseball season might've begun two weeks ago, but for most South Carolina fans, the first true sign of baseball season being in full swing is when the Gamecocks begin their three-game series against the Clemson Tigers. It's a rivalry that many view to be the best in college baseball because of the history that both programs possess, and the talent that's on display for both sides; this weekend will be no different.

The matchup will be one of strength versus strength, but maybe not the one either fanbase expected coming into the season. The Tigers have seven hitters who possess a batting average of .333 or higher and an OPS (on-base+slugging %) of .937, a group that's spearheaded by sophomore leadoff hitter Cam Cannarella. Carolina has eleven pitchers have pitched 3 or more innings this season, and only three of them have given up more than one earned run. Of course, with two Clemson starting pitchers having ERA's of 5.00 or higher, this could also be the weekend where the offense showcases it's collective power.

However, weather forecasts are calling for rain late into Friday night, and a 60 percent chance for rain on Saturday in Columbia, where Game two is supposed to take place.
