The LSU Tigers are one of the most wildcard teams entering the 2026 season, with varying expectations on what the program can accomplish entering year one with new head coach Lane Kiffin at the helm.

To make a challenging year even tougher, the Tigers welcomed over 50 new faces to the program ahead of the year, and figuring out who would impact the roster during camp became a critical piece of the puzzle.

Freshman defensive tackle Lamar Brown has been a consistent name that has turned heads during fall camp, and now is in line to become one of the most important players on the defense, injecting new blood into a defense that is already rich in talent off the edge.

Brown has long been viewed as a special talent, including earning being ranked as the No. 1 athlete, the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana, and the No. 1 overall prospect for the 2026 cycle, the Tigers first signing of a top-ranked recruit since adding Leonard Fournette in 2014.

Many believed that he was one of the most college ready recruits to step on campus this offseason, standing at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, he is flat-out dominant in every aspect of the game.

He has burst and speed to fly off the edge of the line, while also possessing elite raw power to win a pass-rush through pure strength as well.

How Brown Will Impact the Tigers

For the Tigers, they already have a set rotation off the edge, featuring Princewill Umanmielen and Jordon Ross, both transfer pieces from the SEC. Outside of those two though, the Tigers are still searching for someone to step up and take over a role in the rotation as well.

Brown fits that role, and looks talented beyond being a true freshman as well. He has earned valuable reps, including starting in the spring from the moment he stepped on campus, but that carried over into the fall where he continued to turn heads with every opportunity he got.

He earned valuable reps with the two's but he also got the opportunity to run with the ones as well, and he has looked the part during camp. Brown will get the chance to make an impact on the field, and while he might not see the bulk number of snaps, his presence will definitely be felt on the field.
