Ex-Arizona Wildcat WR Poindexter likely tears ACL

Shawn Poindexter has been one of 12 former Arizona Wildcats in NFL camps, but his season appears to be over.
The rookie suffered a right knee injury while covering a punt in the second half of Monday's preseason game, and coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Tuesday that the team fears Poindexter has a torn ACL. An MRI exam was expected to determine the extent of the injury.
"Poindexter still has to get his X-rays and everything," Shanahan said. "We were expecting the worst with the ACL, but we haven't got it confirmed yet."
As an undrafted free agent, Poindexter was a long shot to make the 49ers roster, but he might have able to land a spot on the practice squad because he has one thing you can't teach -- he's 6-foot-5 -- and he has upside as a late bloomer in football who emerged in his senior season with the Wildcats.
