Offense Doesn't Put Best Receivers on Field in Early Drills

Arkansas safeties Joe Foucha and Simeon Blair like the way the defense is competing with the offense in fall camp and that showed Thursday morning.
"We're competing to see who can get to the ball first," Foucha said later.
In the passing game drills for the limited media availability (four periods lasting around 20 minutes), the defense was better than the offense.
Quarterback KJ Jefferson was running with the first-team offense and didn't exactly have the receivers we expect to see on opening day Sept. 4 against Rice.
Jefferson had Kendall Catalon, Jaqualyn Crawford and De'Vion Warren with Raheim Sanders in the backfield. No Treylon Burks or Trey Knox, but then again the media is shown what coaches want them to see.
Burks, a preseason first-team All-SEC pick, hasn't been on the field much during the limited availability the media has had and the secondary notices.
"He's one of a kind," Blair said Thursday. "He's strong, he's fast and it seems like he's slimmed his body up but he's still strong. All the fat is gone and he's really fast."
Foucha thinks he helps bring out the best in the defense.
"He's the best receiver in the SEC," he said. "It always helps when you go against the best."
Malik Hornsby had the second team with Josh Oglesby at running back with Ketron Jackson, Bryce Stephens and Warren Thompson at receivers.
John Stephen Jones directed the third team (Lucas Coley had done that Wednesday) with Harper Cole, Darin Turner and Jaedon Wilson at receiver. Running back AJ Green was working with the third team in a green no-contact jersey.
The Hogs will continue practice Friday morning getting ready for another scrimmage Saturday.
