FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Wide receiver Sam Mbake was officially dismissed from the Arkansas football team Monday. The news was first reported by HawgBeat.

"It was a fun time," Mbake said on Instagram. "Wish I got to show y'all more, forever grateful."

Mbake appeared in nine games as a freshman on special teams and dabbled as being a defensive back as well. The sophomore wideout looked to become a key part of the 2023 wide receiver core before suffering a season-ending injury in a preseason scrimmage. Coach Sam Pittman insisted that Mbake would be part of the rotation before the season started

"Mbake will be on the field as much as anybody this year," Pittman said in August. "I really like the kid. He’s a really hard worker."

He becomes the second player not to return after defensive back Jaylen Lewis announced his intention to enter the transfer portal last week.

Arkansas is still awaiting decisions from their two top wide receivers, seniors Andrew Armstrong and Isaac TeSlaa. Both still have eligibility after transferring in this season. The Razorbacks finished the season ranked 12th in the SEC with just 187.5 passing yards a game, behind only Mississippi State and Auburn
