Takeaways: Auburn sweeps Missouri after an eighth-inning comeback in the series finale

Auburn mounted a vicious comeback against the Missouri Tigers, coming all the way back from a 7-4 deficit in the eighth inning to win 9-7.

This was a great game and a perfect way for the seniors to finish a wonderful senior day.

What can we take away from Auburn's comeback win over Missouri?

Ike Irish has ice in his veins

Ike Irish got a 3-2 curveball and served it into left field, plating two runs and giving Auburn a 9-7 lead over Missouri in the eighth inning. There is not one ounce of fear in this true freshman. When he stepped in the box, I knew he was about to give Auburn the lead, and Irish did just that. The freshman slugger is going to break a lot of records during his time on the Plains.

Coach Thompson deserves a round of applause

This Auburn team seemed left for dead a few weeks into SEC play, but Coach Butch Thompson would not let this team quit. The pitching staff figured things out which has led to these eight straight SEC wins. Coach Thompson just led the Auburn Tigers to a 17-13 conference record which is the most SEC wins in his time as the Auburn skipper. Auburn is blessed with one of the best coaches in college baseball.

Auburn is in a good spot for game one in Hoover

Tommy Vail was dealing with an illness but did throw a few innings in this ball game. Now that the Tigers secured the sweep of Missouri, you have to think Vail could be in position to twirl a few innings in the single elimination portion of the SEC Tournament. Auburn will have a lot of pitching left for this Tuesday's ball game as they look to make it to the double-elimination portion of the tournament. The eight-game winning streak has this ball club feeling good heading into the conference tournament.

Auburn has peaked at the right time

I love reiterating this point, but this Auburn ball club has gotten hot at the right part of the season to where they have a real shot at making it back to Omaha. The Auburn Tigers are the hottest baseball team in college right now, and if they end up traveling for a regional, I feel sorry for whatever ball club is hosting the red-hot Tigers.

What's next?

Auburn will play their first game of the SEC Tournament on Tuesday. Auburn will likely play Texas A&M. We will have all the coverage you need right here at Auburn Daily.
