Cole Foster tabbed Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – Cole Foster has been named the Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week, the College Baseball Foundation announced Tuesday.

Foster went 7-for-16 (.438) with five runs, a double, homer, five RBI, three walks and a stolen base while playing clean defense at shortstop in four games last week.

The junior shortstop capped off an 11-run first inning against Florida A&M Tuesday with a three-run home run off the top of the Josh Donaldson Hitting Lab in right field, marking his first homer of the season and 10th of his Auburn career.

Foster then went 6-for-14 in the team’s three-game sweep of Lipscomb, leading the Tigers in hits and average (.429). He went 2-for-5 and drove in the first run of the game in the series opener Friday before matching a season high with three hits, including a double, in Saturday’s comeback win. Foster again drove in the Tigers first run of game two and was intentionally walked to load the in the bottom of the ninth inning, which ultimately resulted in Ike Irish’s walk-off single.

A native of Plano, Texas, Foster ranks third on the team in hits (14), RBI (11) and on-base percentage (.510) and fourth in average (.359) through 11 games. He is currently riding a career-best, seven-game hitting streak.

Foster and the No. 11 Tigers (9-1-1) begin a five-game week against UAB (4-7) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
