Bears Offense Confidence in QB Kyron Drone 'Second to None' Says TE Ben Sims

Ben Sims had plenty of praise for quarterback Kyron Drones, who could start Saturday against Kansas.

After entering the season as the favorites to win the Big 12, the Baylor Bears have stumbled out of the gate in conference play. Following a win against the Iowa State Cyclones, the Bears have dropped back-to-back games against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and West Virginia Mountaineers.

Now, they will look to get back on track on Saturday as they host the Kansas Jayhawks, one of college football's biggest surprises to start the season. Like the Bears, though, the Jayhawks have lost two straight Big 12 games to drop to 1-2 in conference play.

As the Bears prepare for the Jayhawks, there is a chance they will be without quarterback Blake Shapen, who left the West Virginia game with a concussion.

If the Bears are without Shapen on Saturday against the Jayhawks they will turn to backup Kyron Drones, who replaced Shapen against West Virginia, and who tight end Ben Sims says has the confidence of the rest of the offense.

"Kyron's got the same abilities. You saw in the game, he came in and didn't skip a beat," Sims said. "The confidence that the offense in Kyron is second to none. We're ready for him to play if needs to."

With his limited snaps against the Mountaineers, Drones didn't produce eye-popping numbers but he was efficient. Drones completed 7-of-14 passes for 95 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also added two carries for 24 yards.

While the Bears would likely prefer to have Shapen leading the offense on Saturday, having Drones as their backup lessens the blow should Shapen not play.
