Bears to Face Old Conference Foe in Latest Bowl Predictions?

Could the Bears be on a crash course to face off against a former Big 12 foe?

The second the clock hits zero and a national champion is crowned, outlets galore look ahead to the next bowl season. From this comes way-too-early bowl projections and countless arguments about those projections on who should be where.

Among those way-too-early projections from outlets across the country comes CBS Sports' latest bowl projections, released just ahead of the season. In their projections, they have the Baylor Bears facing off against an old Big 12 conference foe in the Sugar Bowl.

According to CBS Sports, the Bears will be heading to New Orleans on New Year's Eve to take on the Texas A&M Aggies in the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl is a Big 12-SEC bowl game, with the top teams that didn't quite make the College Football Playoff filling in the New Year's Six bowl slot.

This would be the Bears' third straight Sugar Bowl appearance, having lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in 2019 but beating the Ole Miss Rebels in 2021.

Despite the Bears being the Big 12 favorites ahead of the season, CBS Sports is not fully buying into that hype. Rather, they believe that the Oklahoma Sooners will once again regain their claim as Big 12 champions and make another College Football Playoff appearance while the Bears will be off to New Orleans.

Ultimately, the Bears hope to use their 2021 success and springboard that into major momentum this season, aiming to earn a College Football Playoff berth. Should they only make the Sugar Bowl though, it is still another positive step for coach Dave Aranda as he looks to keep the Bears in the perennial national championship contender conversation
